The artists at Penrod find their inspirations in many different ways. Some find it in nature like Blown-glass artist Karen Naylor does, or in their own memorabilia collections like Photography Julie Schwartz. Ting Huang finds it within her own personal struggles, while Derek Dammann’s inspirations come from a childhood activities.

As artwork entertained the eyes, music, food, and beverages entertained the other senses. As attendees wandered the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Arts, the Blues gave way to choirs, followed by Belly Dancing music with dancing, and a walking Jazz band to fill the gaps. The salty-sweet scent of kettle corn filled the air, mixed with roasting meats and all the favorite ethnic foods.

The intent of art is to elicit a reaction or emotion from the viewer as well, whatever that emotion could be. Every person’s reaction is unique and different from the next. Sometimes the reaction comes in the form of inspiration to create for oneself. The Penrod Art Fair also helps inspire others. As a volunteer organization, the proceeds from this one-day art show helps provide grants and helps support Indianapolis area arts projects and organizations.
